In 1990, the U.S. Government passed the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA), which protects the disabled from any unnecessary hazardous area or walkway which could become dangerous, making the property owners liable for any trip injury that this hazardous area may cause.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA) defines a “trip hazard” as any vertical change of over 1/4th inch or more at any joint or crack. Since the ADA demands strict compliance, trip hazards represent a legal liability to any and all property owners.
